Please, take care, Dejan

13.07.2011

Despite his busy touring schedule Dejan Lazic always finds time for two things: playing soccer (which prevented him to join the Maribor Festival in 2008 – he broke his arm) and composing.

“After a rather busy touring period, a quiet week at home in Amsterdam dedicated to composing gives me the necessary creative balance, it’s kind of a musical yoga for me,” he explained in a recent article. ”Being a re-productive artist as a pianist, composing for me is the most honest way toward true productivity, and I believe that only with both combined can an artist find a full balance, satisfy the spirit on a large scale, and achieve richness of expression in all fields. Composing my own pieces makes me totally liberated, and that helps me tremendously as a performer.”

We look forward to hearing one of his works, the Three Istrian Dances for Violin and Piano, at this year’s festival, and hope that composing takes up as much of his time as possible in the coming two months. It’s not that we want Dejan to forget about his other passion – we just want him safe and sound for this year’s Festival Maribor
