Monica Theiss-Eröd - soprano
The soprano Monica Theiss-Eröd studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna by Prof R. Hansmann and K.S. Walter Berry. In 1993 she won the 3rd prize at the competition "Jugend musiziert" (Youth making music).
Since 1990 she has performed in different roles as a soloist, among others with the Vienna Volksoper, Vienna State Opera and at the Mozart Festival in Schönbrunn. As Papagena, 1st and 2nd boy/THE MAGIC FLUTE, Blonde/ABDUCTION FROM THE SERAGLIO, Barbarina/LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Aennchen/THE MARKSMAN and Giulia/LA SCALA DI SETA from Gioaccino Rossini.
Between 1995, when she was a finalist at the 14th International Hans-Gabor-Belvedere Competition, and 1998 she was singing different parts at the Vienna Chamber Opera: Flora/THE TURN OF THE SCREW, the lead role in the zarzuela DONA FRANCISQUITA from A. Vives, Rowan in Benjamin Britten’s THE LITTLE SWEEP and Lucia/THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA.
Monica Theiss-Eröd also performed at the New Opera House in Vienna: among others she played Miss Wordsworth in B. Britten’s ALBERT HERRING, at the Vienna Klangbogen Festival as Louise in R. Benatzky’s MISS CHARMING and at the Vienna State Opera in the children’s opera THE DREAM MUNCHER. (2002-2009)
In addition, the soprano singer also regularly participates at various recitals (e.g. in 2003 at the Austrian Cultural Forum, New York) and concerts. She sang in the St. John Passion (J.S. Bach), The Seven Last Words of Christ (J. Haydn) and the Requiem (W.A. Mozart) and in the year 2008 the German Requiem from J. Brahms in Stephansdom Vienna, Mozart’s Mass in C minor and Joseph Haydn’s Stabat Mater in the monastery Klosterneuburg.
In the summer 2009 she has also performed in a recital at the Festival Wörthersee Classics in the concert hall in Klagenfurt and in November the same year at the Vienna Concert House with arias from W.A. Mozart and Charles Gounod.
In the 2007/2008 season she sang at the City Theatre in Klagenfurt as Najade/ARIADNE ON NAXOS and in 2009/2010 as Amor/Athene in C. Monteverdi’s L’INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA. In 2010 she did a recital with Paul Angerer in Haydn’s birthplace in Rohrau, as well as other performances with the Concilium Musicum ensemble and her husband, the baritone singer Adrian Eröd. At the Vienna Operetta Summer 2009 she received really good ceitiques for her performance of Pepi in the VIENNESSE BLOOD by J. Strauss.
