Maribor Festival 2012: from 5th to 15th September
In 2012, Maribor takes the spotlight of the European culture stage, becoming the European Capital of Culture, offering the Maribor Festival a chance to reach even wider audiences.
In 2012, the festival expands to about 17 events held over a period of ten days, featuring roughly 200 artists.
The planet Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s Little Prince came from was scarcely larger than a house. In today’s language, the language of the Facebook era this would translate as: ´six degrees of separation´. The idea that everyone is on average approximately six steps away from any other person on Earth is the theme of the 2012 festival, exploring the role of music in connecting people.
The Festival’s range of venues spreads to the European Capital of Culture partner cities, introducing new venues in the Cities of Slovenj Gradec, Velenje, Murska Sobota and Novo mesto.

The concerts are dotted around Maribor’s various concert halls and small venues, drenched with history and charm, including: the majestic castles of Maribor, Ptuj and Dornava, the elegant Union Hall as well as the ”hall of thousand mirrors” - Kazina Hall and the Old Hall at the Maribor Theatre. The festival also offers numerous open-air performances on picturesque squares and yards of the Old City of Maribor.
Every year more and more music lovers visit Maribor joining world’s greatest musicians in a true musical celebration and enjoy the relaxed, charming atmosphere of a perfect festival city.
